Such a great book launch for "Mixter" and more great reviews, too!

We had a terrific launch at the Cabbagetown Festival this past weekend, reading to groups of children as they came out from performances of “Aladdin and his Magical Lamp” (Cabbagetown Theatre Co.) three times on Saturday and four times on Sunday.

Big thank yous to everyone who stopped by, to my mom (as always) for all her help at the table both Saturday and Sunday, to Kev for his help at the table and on video on Saturday, and Lulu for helping at the table AND at the readings on Sunday.

Check out these reviews so far for Mixter Twizzle's Breakfast:

"Regan W.H. Macaulay has a flair for creating memorable characters and her imagination most certainly delivers once again in her children's book, Mixter Twizzle's Breakfast. One of the telling signs of a well-written story for children is when multiple lessons can be discovered within each reading. Such discoveries are like finding gold for the soul. Mixter Twizzle's Breakfast is full of valuable lessons, such as friendship, the cost of bullying and the redemptive power of loving the unlovable.

The colourful illustrations by Wei Lu are filled with delightful humour, expression and have a sense of movement that truly lifts the story off the pages.

**Disclosure: I received a copy of this book free of charge from the author in exchange for an honest review. This review consists only of my truthful opinions, not influenced in any way by the author or publisher." -- Gordon Bagshaw, Author of the Frodo the Sheltie series and Illustrator

"Mixter Twizzle is a naughty little demon. He lives under the hen coup and comes out to steal their eggs. But then something happens to change the little red guy and a new story begins.  I just loved Mixter Twizzle. He’s a little cutie but he can be very pesky. It took something magical to change his ways and I really liked how that worked out.  Fun for little ones but I enjoyed it too. The story is not too long or too short. Just right. And the illustrations are very colorful and fun.  Did I enjoy this book? Yes. That little red imp charmed me. Would I recommend it. Very much so. A lesson about friendship and a fun adventure.  I received a complimentary copy. My review is voluntarily given.” — Laura Ramblin, FUONLYKNEW blog/book reviews

“...Regan W.H. Macaulay tells a fantastic story about the ability to see the error of a person, or creature's, ways. A teaching book, the author stays away from being overly critical or being too much like a lecture. She instead uses the little red guy to show how important it is to treat everyone with kindness and respect - something you can't do if you're stealing eggs and just generally being mischievous.  Mixter Twizzle's Breakfast is a quick read for adults and is definitely a fun read for children. The story flows well and the book is well illustrated. I enjoyed Mixter Twizzle's Breakfast.  I was given a copy of this book to read.”  — Sapphyria’s Books

“Mixter Twizzle’s Breakfast is a story that will help you learn lessons of kindness and friendship. There is a lot of new vocabulary in this book. I could see this being read with mid to upper elementary students and working through the new words through the use of context clues. Every age will enjoy the charming illustrations and will learn a great life lesson from Mixter Twizzle. I read this book as a free copy. I look forward to reading it with my own children.” — Susan J. Wood, Children’s Author

“Mixter Twizzle is a most mischievous monster." So begins this tale of an egg-eating monster who lives under the chicken coop at Riverdale Farm. After years of terrorizing the chickens, Mixter Twizzle realizes he's lonely. Only when he stops his evil ways does he find friendship in a most unexpected companion.

Mixter Twizzle is a fiendish fellow. His red, chicken-like body, large devilish head, and pointy teeth give him a fearsome look. Nothing cute and cuddly about this monster. But the message kids can learn from him is an important one: When you are kind, you can make friends, even if you're not the most attractive person.

There are a lot of unfamiliar and creative words in this story. Bleckles, yuckles, bletchers, and filched are a few. Older kids can have fun figuring out the meaning of these words by seeing how they are used in context. The bold, colorful illustrations compliment the story nicely. Mixter Twizzle's Breakfast is a creative tale with an important life lesson. Recommended for children ages 4-7.” – Sherry Ellis, Children’s Author

“Mixter Twizzle is unlike anything you've ever read before. The words and story are fun while bringing you into this different creature's world. Not to mention the fun drawings- just don't get spooked :p” – Nate Friedman, Children’s Author
