‘A sweetly illustrated book looking at lots of different sorts of music and musical terms.’ (4 stars)
This is a very sweet little book for 6 to 8 year olds. Colorfully illustrated and packed full of delightful animal characters, this is a fun way of introducing young children to all the different sorts of music. The story follows a group of dogs who want to start up a dog band. The problem is, they don't know which sort of music to play. So they decide lots of animal pals what they think. They ask Taco the cat, Leroy the iguana and a host of other animals, who not surprisingly - think differently. to ask Bambino all - This book is a fun way of introducing musical words to children. Words such as ‘lyrics’, ‘twang’, ‘jazz’ and ‘orchestra’. The children will get to see clarinets, trumpets and a cool-looking frog with sunglasses and a harmonica! It’s important to note that there are a few topics within this book that most children will find difficult to understand. For example, poodle skirts and cars with fins. But, with a little help from adults - and possibly Google - it could be fun to investigate the topics further. All in all, I think most children with an interest in music will find this book fun ... In terms of being an introduction to musical instruments, musical terms and musical turns of phrase, this could be a classroom gem. And, of course, the children will have fun trying to guess which style of music the dog band end up playing. Enjoy! -- A ‘Wishing Shelf’ Book Review www.thewsa.co.uk
