A great book that utilizes the magic of a child's imagination and a helpful too for many ages!

I particularly enjoyed this book! It's full of action, excitement, and utilizes the magic of imagination. I feel that this is something that is important for children as they walk the journey of learning through life experiences. By following the adventures of Beverlee Beaz the Brown Burmese, the child is brought through the creative mind of this clever kitty character and learns how sometimes we can make things bigger than what they really are. In the book, Beverlee Beaz was able to find out that the animals she came across weren’t really as scary as she originally imagined them to be. I feel this book is a helpful tool for many ages!

Beverlee Beaz has quite the imagination. She longs for adventure and as we walks along the areas around her home she has many exciting encounters. There is no end to her wild imagination. Children will love her romps through areas filled with kangaroos, dinosaurs, and magical creatures. The pages are illustrated with vibrant, fun pictures. The author and illustrator have done an excellent job bringing Beverlee and her adventures to life.

Reader Views Kids:
“Beverlee Beaz the Brown Burmese” by Regan W.H. Macaulay is about a cat named Beverlee Beaz who has an active imagination. Beverlee gets out of the house and starts walking. She sees the trees and the running water, then she sees a butterfly. The butterfly turns into a parrot from the Amazon rainforest! Then Beverlee sees a rabbit under a bush, and it becomes a kangaroo that she chases around. Beverlee trips and lands in the pond where she sees a frog. The frog then becomes a Komodo dragon! I really like Komodo dragons, so this one was fun to see in the book. Then Beverlee bumps into a beehive and the bees start chasing her, but they turn into hungry Pterodactyls! Last, she sees a unicorn standing in front of her, and it kind of scares her with its horn so long. After the unicorn helps Beverlee out of trouble, she realizes that it’s not so bad, or a unicorn, after all. Beverlee had a fun but busy day with her imagination.
This was a fun book to read because of all of the interesting animals that Beverlee imagined. I liked all of the animals, and I liked how Beverlee was able to know that the animals weren’t really scary ones like she imaged them to be, but instead they were less scary. I think kids of all ages will like this book – I did, and my three-year-old brother did too.
-- Lydia Dehning, Age 6

A Note from Mom: This is a very cute book about how your imagination can become very realistic. It is good that the author was able to show Beverlee understanding that it was just her imagination while allowing her to have fun at the times her imagination was taking over, as well. I agree with Lydia that this is a book for any age with the imaginative choice of animals, and the beautifully drawn pictures to look at.

Charming tale about an imaginative cat

Beverlee Beaz, The Brown Burmese is a charming, beautifully illustrated tale about a cat with a wild imagination. On her romp through nearby forests and fields, Beverlee Beaz imagines many fantastical sights. A monarch butterfly becomes a colourful gliding parrot from the Amazon rainforest, a rabbit turns into a bouncing kangaroo hopping through the Australian Outback, a swarm of bees becomes a flock of hungry Pterodactyls from the dinosaur age, and many other make-believe transformations. This whimsical tale with playful and dreamy watercolour illustrations by Alex Zgud will spark the imagination of young readers everywhere. Highly recommend!

MyShelf.com:

This picture book for young readers features Beverelee Beaz, an adventurous cat that bolts out of the house one morning looking for excitement. It’s an average, ordinary day as she wanders past a meadow, some hills, the woods, and a river bank. When she spots an orange and black monarch butterfly, however, her adventure begins. Beverelee imagines the butterfly is a fiery orange parrot from the Amazon rainforest. She then encounters more animals and uses her imagination to create exciting scenes. A rabbit becomes a kangaroo; a frog becomes a Komodo dragon; and angry bees become a flock of hungry Pterodactyls from the Jurassic period. Overwhelmed by her imagination, Beverlee tries to run away, but falls in the process, and is saved by a white unicorn – or is it really a unicorn? Cute watercolor illustrations enhance the book by showing readers the real and pretend characters in the story. The art uses lots of color and intricate details to depict action, excitement, and the magic of imagination. The story teaches children about different animals and reveals the fun of using creative thought to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary. Using a comfortable mix of narrative and dialogue, the story should delight young readers, many of whom could use a gentle nudge to create their own fun and excitement beyond their cell phones and video game consoles.
